Skills Development

This is what i created by using the software on wordle.com. I have included key words that i have developed when planning our A2 coursework (film trailer), compared to my AS coursework. I intend to use these developed skills to create our A2 horror trailer project over the time of the course.

Update

Myself and Jack are going to redo our animitronics storyboard after what our teacher said for improvements. We need to make sure that we have a much better structure with the trailer so that it cant be classed as a short film, also with this we were told that we needed to have a wider range of shots within the trailer and think about the effect of the pace in the trailer. This we hope to have completed by tomorrow.

Mrs D

I like the semiotics within your trailer and the storyline works. The heart beat and some SFX are effective. Editing is very limited and there are only long shots - this barely hits band 2 for construction. There is no variation of pace or camera shots. Break down the structure of some RMAs and revisit your storyboard. Hearing the audio would be good too.

3 Other Trailer Analysis

The majority of our analysis of 3 of our inspirational trailers was done in our pitch. We discussed with the rest of the group and teacher what we liked about the trailers and how they link to our planned horror film trailer. All our main points that we discussed have been summed up below each of the trailers.

  • Classic horror with modernised themes.
  • Spooky horror monster.
  • Horrific wood setting.
  • Modernised horror music.
  • Plays on classic horror sterotypes.
  • Very gruesome.

  •  •   Masked Killer.
     •   Gruesome murders.
     •   Realistic/believable.
     •   Figures in the background that arent drawn attention to.
     •   Jumpscares.
     •   Dark, shadowed areas (where killers are).
     •   Loud sudden noises.

  • 'Hunter' type killers.
  • Characters being killed off one by one.
  • Masked killers.
  • Jumpscares.
  • Believable story.
  • Many different weapons used by killers.
  • Modern killer horror film.
  • Twists on typical media conventions.
  • Test Shots/Filming Sessions

These are just some test shots that I myself took for the location of the trailer for when we film it. As you can see the main location/area of the filming will be taking place in some form of woods (these are the woods near our school but we may change to a different one as many others are attempting the same location) and we believe that this will be an effective location because woods or woodland areas are a very typical setting for a horror film and trailer. One idea we have in mind is to place the killer (in these shots) in the distance in these shots or hiding behind one of the trees displayed in most
of the shots. With these test shots you can see we have a variety of different types of shots so that we can have a much more interesting looking final product with the trailer. If this becomes the final location or the permanent location when we begin to film for the trailer we obviously will have to consider the lighting as we will be in a dark location as it is and its beginning to become darker much earlier so this could possibly pose a problem but it should still be viable.
